Introduction to Knitting

Learn how to cast on, cast off and to knit 1 purl 1. Just bring yourself and your enthusiasm! If you have a pair of needles, bring them along (or chopsticks or pencils!). But if you don't please still come, we have wool and some needles you can use.

a good book that you have felt passionate about
a surprise
an old wool jumper you don't think will be worn again - to unpick and use the wool
help to design a storage box for a knitting machine
homemade cup cakes to share with the class
spare or recycled buttons
suggestions for kids activities aged 10-13 (not computer related)

I know it isn’t PC now for a 3yrs old to be playing with needles, but I loved watching my mother making fabulous clothes and things for the home and I just could not wait…so I had the best dressed dolls in town. As you can tell I have a passion sewing and passing on sewing knowledge. That initial excitement I used to get about sewing is still with me today. I studied Fashion Design at university and now run a small independent business. I have decided to set up a series of sewing workshops, teaching a range of sewing techniques including up-cycling and re-styling. I see sewing as an invaluable skill (it will also save you loads of money) that everyone should learn. ‘So let’s get you sewing’

I am an amateur gardener and allotment enthusiast. I have a medium size back garden and small front garden. During the last two years, I have acquired both a small and a large allotment and am cultivating over 30 herbs, several varieties of potatoes, a selection of pumpkins, various berries, plus other vegetables and fruit. I would like to share my passion with other like minded people and exchange ideas.

Although I am turned 70 yrs of age I am fully mobile, active etc. I am no longer a cyclist, but from the age of 5 when I was given my first '2 wheeler' with solid rubber tyres I loved the freedom which cycling offers. I was fortunate enough to be able to afford a motor cycle at age 20, so for me 'pedal pushing' lost a lot of it's attraction, but in the early years I learned to maintain my cycles with knowledge from elder brothers.

Learn to draw the 'flower of life', an important and symbolic geometric composition, that can be used as a template for creating hundreds of patterns. We will draw the pattern together using a compass, pencil and ruler and discuss how it can be used as a template for designing further tessellating patterns and grids. If you have a compass, pencil, eraser or ruler please bring it along, although I will try and bring enough for everyone. Paper will be provided.
