The class will introduce students to the concept of "white fragility", in order to build one's ability to withstand common strategies of defense that uphold white forms of dominance. In particular, students will work in small groups to develop effective strategies for challenging white racist practices.

About the teacher, Darryl Leroux
Darryl is a white settler whose ancestors include the first person born to European parents in New France in 1620. He's a professor of sociology at Saint Mary's University. His work examines the politics of racism and colonialism in Canada, with a particular focus on Québec. His most recent research has turned to the self-indigenization of French-descendants.
