Introduction to Chess - Part 1

The theoretical session is meant to teach the very basics of the game of chess to someone with no/little prior knowledge of the game. The session will cover the following: (1) Presentation and Course objectives; (2) Brief History of chess; (3) The Chessboard and notation; (4) The Pieces and their movements; (5) Check and Checkmate; (6) Draw rules; (7) Special rules; and (8) Session Recap. This class will be followed up by part 2 where the theory will turn into practice and where the learned concepts will be applied.

About the teacher, Paulo Barbosa

I am a professional trainer and I develop and deliver training courses for international corporations. On my spare time I deliver chess classes to children or coach them for competition. I have a University degree in Education and a true passion for teaching. I am also part of one of the chess clubs in Geneva and although an amateur, I am a fairly strong chess player.
