"Just moved to Geneva? Lived in Geneva for a while but realize it's time to learn the local language? Whichever of the two, this class is intended for those of you who realize ""I WANT TO LEARN FRENCH.... but I don't know how to start.....it seems complicated and there is a lot of grammar...and I'm not a ""language-person""...."" Of course, in 2 hours I cannot make you speak French and that is not the objective of the course. The objective of the course is that you will walk out with a PLAN of how to learn French, customized to your needs and wants, and then it will be up to YOU to action it and go ahead. Having lived in various countries and learnt various languages with various methods I think I could be of help and/or offer inspiration to find a study method that might work for YOU! To give you an idea of my class, I outlined it briefly below. The class will be divided into two parts. In the first part we will focus on who you are, what your needs are, what methods are available and how to get started. PART 1 (1-1.5h) * Introduction and explanation (this is the part where I convince you that EVERYONE can learn a language) * Presentation/getting to know each other (depending on you background/culture/mother tongue/job your needs will look different) - This is the part where we decide the areas to cover :) * Various study methods and how to find the way that works best for YOU. PART 2 (30min - 1h) The last part of the class will be dedicated to teach you some basic phrases, local slang that you can show off with and other fun French stuff. This is also the part that I will bust the myth that ""an accent is an accent and will always be and there is nothing we can do to change it"" If you are serious about learning French, but you have never really learnt a foreign language, it doesn't matter if you will want to learn it for business or to be able to order drinks in a bar .... come to class and I hope you will walk out motivated to get started!!!! BRING - something to write on and a pen!

Bring one of the following:
* surprises are always welcome *
a bottle of good wine
Does someone want to fix up my bike (I'm not very handy, it needs some duct-taping and inflation of tires...)
if someone is native German speaker, I would highly appreciate a meeting over a beer where we speak German and you correct me
Plants of herbs (basil VERY welcome!)

About the teacher, charlotte

"I am Swedish born, moved away when I was 18. I lived a year in France where I worked as an au pair and did an advanced french language diploma. Thereafter I traveled central america and learnt Spanish ""on the road""..... and then it went on and was hard to stop. Now I study some Turkish on the side because I am just fascinated by languages! In total, I learnt 9 foreign languages in my life and I LOVE languages (I don't speak 10, never did in the same time, but I manage pretty damn well in 7....) I am always amazed how people say things like ""well, I'm not a language-person"" or ""well, i will ALWAYS have a french (/insert any other language here) accent"" and ""I just don't know how to get started, there is SO much grammar!!!"" I hope to be able to share my experiences and be able to motivate people by showing that there is not just ONE (boring) way of learning a foreign language, and I was hoping there is a demand for something like that because I have met numerous people in Geneva who all tell me the same thing...."
