about us

Trade School Dublin is an alternative learning community that runs on barter (you give the teacher something small in return for the class/workshop). Trade School helps people share skills, ideas, experiences and resources.

Trade School is a global initiative that began in New York (general/global site: http://tradeschool.coop). We launched the Dublin branch in the summer of 2013.

We are looking forward to our next Trade School Dublin session, so please come and join us by registering to teach a class or signing up for one as a student!

Anyone can teach a class and students sign up by agreeing to meet the barter requests of teachers.

Trade School celebrates knowledge and experience. It is a place to learn with other people who value practical wisdom, mutual aid, and the social nature of exchange. We believe that everyone has something to teach.

Trade School is not about promoting brands, projects or companies - people offer to teach something they are skilled at or passionate about that they want to share with others.

Classes can be on anything from computer skills, baking bread, philosophy, bicycle repair, brick casting, growing food, how to play the blues, circus skills, telling a story, giving a talk, life-skills, practical how-to help, drawing, yoga, history, sharing an experience etc.

How does it work?

Students and teachers gather in a space that is made available by Trade School organisers (who will be there on the day to help). Students give barter items to the teacher, and class begins.

Barter does not mean haggling or bargaining. It simply means the social exchange that takes place when you offer someone an object, some advice, or a new skill in exchange for their knowledge.

We believe that everyone has knowledge to share and we think that it is of value, that is why we ask for a small barter item rather than giving free classes. This will never be money and will always be cheap or free to give (for example, a box of tea bags, a smile, a list of places in Ireland to visit).

To register to teach you can click on “register to teach” on the home page.

To register you need to add a little information about your class, about you, your barter request items (e.g. food, supplies, advice or appreciation) and then select a date and time.
