Trade School is an opportunity for people to trade their knowledge and abilities for other people's goods and skills. For example, someone who likes baking can offer to teach a class how to make bread in exchange for computer skills, books or a pot of home-made jam.
Trade School puts a value on all type of knowledge, skills and experience. It promotes the belief that everyone has something valuable they can share with other people, and encourages learning and the exchange of ideas in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
In 2011 ThinkARK (a network of people interested in making our communities better through fun, engaging & collaborative projects) launched the first Trade School Cardiff with the aim of encouraging people to share their practical skills, knowledge and experience in exchange for goods or services. Over 70 people registered for 12 classes over one week in a bustling community centre in Cathays. Since then the Trade School volunteer team have run four different events across the city including one in collaboration with Oasis Cardiff and the Welsh Refugee Council as part of Refugee Week Wales, and one "Reduce Reuse Recycle" themed in collaboration with Green City Events and Made in Roath.
